Kent County Animal Shelter

Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome

Serving the homeless animals of Kent County since 1962, the open admission facility has taken in animals ranging from basic domestic dogs and cats to pot-bellied pigs! What started out as a small, stand-alone building was eventually outgrown, having helped thousands of animals over seven decades. Then, in 2021, after years of planning and extensive fundraising, it was finally time to break ground on the 5-acre plot that the new shelter would call home.

The design of the building integrates seamlessly with the region’s agricultural styles while offering a sleek, modern appearance. Expansive windows invite tons of natural light, provide scenic views, and highlight the building's earthy materials, fostering vibrant and uplifting spaces. Contemporary lighting and cozy furnishings contribute to a soothing environment for both people and animals. Coordination was key for the new facility as it is positioned in a fairly remote area and needed all new electrical infrastructure meant to accommodate recreational and medical equipment, as well as security and back-up systems.

Following the completed construction in 2022, Kent County Animal Shelter has increased its adoption rate by a whopping 57%!
