International School of Denver
Outstanding Design for a Premier Education
The International School of Denver (ISDenver) is widely recognized as one of Denver’s most premier schools for children ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade, offering a unique multicultural curriculum and an inclusive, globally minded community to inspire and encourage highly motivated and academically successful bilingual learners. After more than 40 years of operation, the ISDenver had outgrown its existing building and was in need of a modernized approach to design to support current and future growth. In 2016, the ISDenver wanted to improve their learning spaces and buildings to revitalize the campus and continue their commitment to providing global immersion for students. As a result, it created its Master Plan to cater to the evolving needs of students, teachers and parents.
AE Design participated in this shared vision with ISDenver and our project partners, Venture Architecture and 360 Engineering, to design the new academic building that reflects a one-of-a-kind learning space for this one-of-a-kind extraordinary school. In June 2022, AE Design and our project partners completed the Mary Louise Evans Building, the school’s newest venture to create a thriving academic and extracurricular hub for not just current students, but for the entire community. The new middle school is designed with purpose by the faculty for the unique learners of the institution.
Through lighting and electrical engineering design along with our technology services, AE Design was committed to enhancing this space with the most effective lighting composition and give ISDenver the optimal lighting necessary to provide students with the highest quality learning and atmosphere. Lights were creatively installed throughout the building with a functional design, while utilizing the natural sunlight that Colorado provides. The building has set the standard for school remodels and multi-purpose spaces and won the Gold Award at the 2022 Urban Design and Architecture Design Awards.
