Boulder Country Club Clubhouse

Hole-in-One Design

The Boulder Country Club is a private member-owned non-profit social golf clubhouse serving the Boulder County community since 1965. Originally completed by Hobart Wagner, this historic landmark received a complete interior clubhouse renovation including the lobby, family restaurant, bar/lounge, private dining, event spaces, bridal suite, and lower-level card rooms.

A goal was to bring the clubhouse into the 21st century with updated materials, lighting, and improve event spaces for increased revenue. The original building’s existing interlinked hexagonal spaces, sloped wood ceilings, and skylight spine were intact and were celebrated with upgrades, while key areas were expanded to enhance the space, experience, and views. The project resulted in a fresh, sophisticated, and engaging social space that serves the community’s wellness, lifestyle, and social needs.

Lighting and controls were upgraded with solutions that were energy-efficient and discrete to showcase the space. Designed in collaboration with the interior designer, custom chandeliers provide central focal points in each hexagonal room, with attention to the scale, proportion, lamping, and dimming quality. Additionally, new modern glass pendants and concealed linear accent lighting at the bar warmly invite people in.

Lastly, the new networked control system has automatic preset scenes for seamless light level transitions, providing ease of use with a single control interface for lighting, motorized shades, room partitions, projector screens, and AV integration. The lighting dims automatically with photosensors to save energy at skylights, and the new control system adds flexibility for the clubhouse members. Automation and presets give a higher level of quality control as well, letting staff focus on serving members, rather than worrying about the light levels. Touchscreens in each event space also give renters advanced customization and flexibility to address their lighting needs.
