Auraria Bike Pavilions

Partnering with Design Students

The Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) in downtown Denver serves three institutions: the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. The AE Design Power, Lighting, and Technology Studios are long-time partners of the College of Architecture and Planning’s (CAP) ColoradoBuildingWorkshop which engages students to design and build real-world projects. Our team consults and advises the student designers on the electrical systems needed in their projects.

To promote non-motorized transportation and reduce bike theft, the Auraria Sustainable Campus Program (ASCP) partnered with ColoradoBuildingWorkshop to build two bike storage pavilions, each holding up to 50 bikes, with fix-it stations and skateboard racks. The pavilions use an innovative design with limestone louvers that provide transparency, durability, and sustainability. These structures also feature a dry-stacked assembly for disassembly and reuse, integrate sustainable landscaping, and utilize Tally software to minimize environmental impact.
